SUMMARY
Georgie had an ordinary life until one day she woke up on a spaceship after being abducted by aliens. There’s other women there who have all been abducted. The first thing they tell her is - don’t scream. Screaming makes the aliens angry, and when they get angry, they rape you…repeatedly… so Georgie is like got it, no screaming.
The aliens have abducted single, not pregnant, healthy, no nearby family, 22 year old women. There are six women in pod-like holding cells. And then there’s more in the cargo bay. Liz, another woman, has been there 2 weeks. She says she thinks they are going to get as many women as they can and then sell them or something? She really doesn’t know. Kira, she’s been there the longest, she has a device in her ear so she is able to translate the aliens. She is the only one who understands them.
After about 2 weeks, the women think they are heading out to space now. Georgie has been trying to start a riot for a week now, but finally she has some other women on board. They decide to start a ruckus, have the guards come in, then bumrush them. The next day they decide to enact their plan but the ship is having a lot of turbulence. Kira says she can’t understand a lot of what is going on but it sounds like something is wrong with the ship and they’re talking about detaching the cargo to a safe location and coming back later for it. Georgie is like ummm we are the cargo. The good thing about this is there is only one guard, not two, watching them. Georgie wants to go through with their plan. The guard comes in to deal with them but then red emergency lights go on and they start lurching - the aliens dispatched the cargo hold. Georgie manages to get the gun from the alien and bashes his skull in. Great! Except - they’ve just crashed on another planet that is not Earth.
During the crash everybody got injured a little. Georgie has a broken wrist. Other girls have broken legs. Two girls died. They weren’t left with enough bars to feed everyone, very little water, and they have no extra clothes or blankets - and they’ve crashed on a cold ass planet. Georgie says someone needs to go out and scout and she gets nominated as their leader. They take the clothes off the dead alien, Georgie takes his gun, and a few bars and sets off.
As soon as she gets out of the ship, she notices two suns so definitely not Earth. Georgie thinks it looks like Hoth from Star Wars and just as fucking cold. She is terrified but really doesn’t have any other options but to walk. She finds a lake and rushes to it, only to discover some real scary alien fish in it. She runs away from it and then gets caught in a trap and ends up hanging upside down. She is worried about being something’s dinner and when she sees someone approaching, she has been hanging upside down too long, and passes out.
Vektal is the chief of the local tribe. He is out hunting and when he stumbles upon his latest catch he can’t figure out what it is. But as he gets closer, he is shocked that his khui starts purring (well he calls it resonating but Georgie calls it purring and that makes more sense to me). The khui is only supposed to purr when he meets his mate. He’s been alive a long time and his khui has been quiet. Now that it’s woken up, he knows he must keep this strange creature safe. He grabs her and runs to the closest cave. He builds a fire for her and strips off her wet clothes. He tells himself he is just trying to warm her and check her for injuries but he’s also checking out his mate. He can’t help him and he goes down on her.
And that’s how Georgie wakes up. She thinks she’s dreaming and then she starts focusing and sees horns, blue-grey skin, black mane of hair like a lion, his face is like stone, and his nose has ridges. He’s also huge. His eyes are glowing bright blue, without any pupils. And he has a tail. Georgie thinks I should probably stop him, scream help or rape but … she will in just a minute. He finishes her and then tries to flip her onto her stomach and she’s like nope not happening. She kicks him in the chest and says No. Not shockingly, the alien doesn’t speak English. Also, his body is hard like stone so kicking him just hurts her.
Vektal gets upset that this strange creature thinks he would hurt her. He just wants to keep her happy and safe. He can gather that she is scared and not wanting to mate so he thinks he’ll be patient.
Georgie and Vektal try to learn how to communicate. They at least get each other's names. Vektal gives Georgie some type of bar, which makes her tongue burn and she almost pukes. The next morning, she’s trying to communicate that she is hungry, he gets her bundled up, has her climb on his back, then goes in search of food. He starts going the opposite direction of where the ship is. She tries to communicate that he needs to go the other way, but he is trying to communicate that he’s trying to feed her. She goes along thinking maybe she can get some supplies, food, and find out some more about the planet before going back to the other girls.
He goes to another cave, leaves to go hunt and brings his kill back to her. He expects her to eat it raw, she disagrees. Tries to mime that he needs a fire, and he’s super confused why she wants him to burn it.
After forcing her to eat some of the raw food, he takes her to some water to wash. While washing, she indicates that she needs him to go back up the mountain with her. He doesn’t want to so she uses what she has available - seduction. That gets him to agree to go up the mountain. He takes her halfway up and then stops at another cave. She doesn’t want to stop again and tries to take off on her own. She ends up falling into a cavern with a bunch of … things. Vektal is right behind her and those alien things are terrified of him so they back off. He takes her back to the cave and makes her a fire.
Georgie is really upset because she’s cold, hungry, scared, worried about the girls, and now she thinks Vektal is mad at her. Vektal is utterly confused. What is this creature that is his mate? She is utterly helpless and she doesn’t even have a khui like he does. He finally understands she wants him to cook the raw meat, so he does. Then they spend some time pointing at things and saying them in each other’s language like fire, hair, face, and other interesting parts. This leads to clothes being removed and Georgie losing her alien virginity. Vektal is beyond happy. He has claimed his mate and his khui just keeps purring away. He’s also super excited to get her pregnant, which Georgie doesn’t think is possible - different species and all that.
The next morning, he takes her up the mountain as she wishes. On the way up, they find a human foot. Georgie recognizes it as Dominique and is hoping she isn’t too late for the rest of them. When they get to the ship, there are 5 girls left - Liz, Kira, Megan, Tiffany, and Josie. Plus the others in the pods. Luckily, Kira’s little ear translator thing works on Vektal’s language so she can understand most of what he is saying. Georgie learns that he thinks they are mates.
Vektal is pretty excited about the extra 5 girls (he doesn’t know about the pods). There are only 6 females in his tribe, so there’s a lot of males without mates. Vektal hunts for more food and starts a fire for the girls.
The next morning, Vektal tells them he can’t take them all. They don’t have proper shoes or clothing and they’re too weak to make the trip. He says he will go with Georgie, get some of his tribe and come back to rescue them. Vektal makes haste down the mountain and finally stops. He tells her this is the only stop, tomorrow morning they will arrive at his tribe. When they get inside the “cave”, Georgie is excited. It's a spaceship and one light is still blinking. Georgie goes over to the control panel (after they break all the ice around it) and boots it up. At first it speaks a different language but when Georige responds back in English, it changes itself to English. The AI tells her that Vektal is a modified sakh - modified for life on this planet. It tells her that they are in a different solar system than Earth. She asks how Vektal got there. AI says it used to be a pleasure cruise, but they got stuck in a solar storm, wrecked, and have been stuck there. AI says only 63 people were on the ship, many died until “accepting the symbiont”. This is an organism that lives inside you. The planet has a substance in its atmosphere that is toxic to humans and sakh. It takes about a week, but once you build up toxic levels, your body just shuts down. The organism, khui as they call them, makes changes inside your body to help you live in the toxic air. The khui also helps you heal faster and “ensures procreation of viable offspring”. If you get the khui, you can’t have it removed or you’ll die.
The AI offers to upload Vektal’s language in Georgie's head. That’ll make talking way easier if they speak the same language. Now that they can talk, one of the things Georige tells him is that humans usually make a mutual decision to mate. Vektal said it wasn’t his decision - it was his khui’s. He tells her that when they get back to his tribe, they can hunt down some animal that has a bunch of khuis in them and they can transplant it into the human women. Georgie is like dude, I don’t know if I want that right now. Vektal gets upset, but tries to be understanding.
They leave for his tribe and when they arrive, the tribe members are surprised that Vektal has a weird creature with him and that he is saying it's his mate. Vektal and his tribe make plans for leaving the next day to go rescue the other women. Georgie is worried all the men will just decide they’re all getting a woman, but Vektal assures her that nothing will be done with the women without their consent, even if one of the mates with them.
That night, Vektal tells Georgie that his khui will continue to hum for her even after the “kit” arrives. And Georgie is like why am I picturing a child? He’s like yeah that’s what it is… and surprise he already impregnated her.
The next day they set off, they stop at the ship again for the night and a few of the men learn English with the help of the AI. They arrive back at ship the next day. Georgie is relieved to find all of the women still alive, but weak. All the men go into the ship to help and Georgie hears not one, but two, men resonating (purring because they found their mates).
Georgie tells the women about the sickness, the khui, and mates. They discuss what their options are - not many. Staying with the big blue guys and getting a khui is their best bet. They all agree that's what they are going to do and then they decide to wake up the 6 women in the pods. Georgie is worried Vektal will be mad that there are six more of them but he is so excited for more fertile women. Georgie makes all the aliens go outside while they wake up the women. She tells Vektal that it’ll be a long process. The 5 women who were awake have had a little time to adjust - these 6 have no clue what's going on.
Vektal is outside when one of the men tells him that one of those big creatures that carries khui is near-by. He tells Georgie they need to leave in the morning. Liz tells him that not everyone is on board yet when Kira interrupts saying she can hear the aliens in her ear piece - they are on their way back. So instead of leaving in the morning, they leave now.
The men track down the beast and slay it. Vektal cuts out the heart and opens it. Bunch of wriggling little worms in there. Vektal says they make an incision in the neck, the worm wriggles in, and bam, done. It takes just a few minutes and it’s all done. All the women accepted a khui.
Georgie instantly feels warm, the khui changing her already. Then she hears/feels the humming. Her khui accepts Vektal’s.
Vektal says they will travel home in the morning, but they will rest in the woods for the night (now that the humans aren’t freezing to death). As they are getting it on, Georgie sees something in the sky. The aliens did come back - found the cargo gone - and left.
But for good?
