Troy and Atlas are stepbrothers who have always had a somewhat friendly rivalry. Their entire high school lives were spent betting each other about things and then coming up with a unique punishment for whoever lost. Once, Troy lost a bet and Atlas had him wear black lace underwear all day. No one but Troy and Atlas knew about it.

Another time, Troy wrote his name on top of Atlas’ ass.  Again, no one saw. But it was the thrill of MAYBE someone would see it.

Troy is openly gay but Atlas is straight. So he says. He has always had an attraction to Troy and enjoyed all the secret punishments Troy would receive. They aren’t exactly enemies but they aren’t best buds either.

It's the beginning of the semester and Troy is struggling in his Thermodynamics class. This shit has always come easy to him but he failed his first test and he’s starting to stress out.

Meanwhile, Atlas volunteers at a local charity that helps those less fortunate and they approach him saying that they are going to have a charity auction and one of things they are auctioning off is a date with hot bachelors. They want Atlas to ask Troy to participate. Atlas agrees but then is faced with a dilemma. No one, not his dad, his friends, no one, knows that he volunteers. He has this persona as a bad boy, loner, asshole and if people find out he volunteers, that will all go away. He also likes having something that is just his and makes him feel close to his mom, who also liked to volunteer before she died.

Atlas decides a bet with Troy is the solution. When Troy comes over yelling at him about a car part, Atlas tells him he has a way to help him pass his next Thermo test. He reminds Troy about the lace underwear bet. It was over a football game - if Troy lost, he had to wear the underwear. If Troy won the game, Atlas would pay $100. Troy played harder that night and only lost by one point. The motivation to beat Atlas at a bet made him play harder than he normally would have.

Atlas says if Troy fails the exam, then he has to help Atlas at an event one evening. If Troy passes the exam, then Atlas will do whatever Troy wants. Atlas starts throwing out things that he could do - be Troy’s personal Uber for a month, eat a rare steak, have Atlas wear girls underwear for a day. Troy gets annoyed and says (as an insult, not an invitation), “suck my dick, asshole”. Atlas says ok that works. Troy cannot believe Atlas would agree to that. Atlas says he’s pretty sure he will win the bet so fine, he’ll agree to those terms. He tells Troy that he has to get an A on his test - not just a passing grade, but an A. Troy is annoyed (and a little offended). He thinks Atlas is being homophobic by saying he’ll give him a blowjob. Offended because Atlas is so confident that Troy won’t get an A, he has no problem agreeing to give the BJ. Troy only finally agrees because he figures, if he does ace his test, there is no way in hell Atlas will give him head, and then Troy can give Atlas shit for their rest of their lives for bowing out of a punishment.

For the next few weeks, they text each other giving each other shit about the bet. Regular stepbrother ribbing you know - about blowjobs and boners. On the day of the exam, Atlas doesn’t know if he wants Troy to fail so that he has to participate in the bachelor auction. Or pass his test because he wants Troy to do well and he also might want his dick in his mouth. Which is confusing for Atlas. On many levels.

Troy comes over that evening and proudly shows off a 91%. He says he’s been thinking about this and he would prefer Atlas on his knees. Atlas drops to his knees and Troy gets nervous. He laughs and was like oh you’re actually going to act like this is happening. He still thinks Atlas is going to bail out. Not only has Atlas decided he is definitely following through but he wants to be the best head Troy has ever gotten.

And he succeeds. Which makes him super smug and more confused. Also, now he’s in a pickle. Because now he has promised Troy for this bachelor auction but Troy won the bet. He tells Troy about his volunteering and the auction. Troy agrees to do it anyway because he’s a nice boy.

The night of the auction, Troy’s roommate, and best friend's stepbrother, Ash, wins him. Pays over $500 for him. This pisses Atlas off. He doesn’t want to be jealous, but he is. They end up making out for the first time right before the auction and Troy tells him he wants all of him. Right after Ash wins him, Atlas tells Troy to meet him back at his place. Where Atlas learns what it’s like to be a bottom. Then tells Troy he doesn’t want Ash, or anyone, touching him while they’re fooling around.

After a few weeks, they go out on a date, where both Troy and Atlas’ friends see them together. Some of them are confused, but the majority of them are supportive. Even Ash. Who tells Troy he only spent that money for the good cause and because they’re friends so he knew the date wouldn’t be awkward.

A few weeks after that, Atlas tells Troy he loves him. During sex. Which then causes him to freak out a little once his friend, Brenner, tells him that saying it during sex is a bad omen. Atlas wants to tell their parents. He has a shit relationship with his dad and doesn’t care what happens when he finds out about them. But Troy, not that he has a great relationship with his mom, but it’s not awful. Atlas hates his dad because he caught his dad cheating on his mom with Troy’s mom. He didn’t tell his mom, and then she found out, they got a divorce, and shortly after that, she died. He blames his dad for his mom’s death. And, he’s a really shitty dad.

Troy’s only issue with his mom has to do with his older brother, Brandon. Troy’s dad left when they were younger. Brandon went to find him and when he did, their dad was basically like yeah, I just don’t want to be a dad anymore. Which fucked him up. Brandon started doing drugs and became addicted. The last time Troy saw him, he had broken into their house, and Troy ended up giving him all of his savings. Troy believed him when he said he needed it to get help. That was when Troy was a junior in high school  and he hasn’t heard from him since. His mom just recently put a bunch of pictures and awards up which upset Troy. He feels like his mom is trying to forget Brandon.

Atlas doesn’t have the best relationship with Troy’s mom either because he also blames her for his mom’s death. Takes two to tango and all that. But recently, he has been warming up to her. Probably because of Troy.

One day, Atlas is out with Taylor and Brennan and he sees his dad. Making out with a woman that is not Troy’s mom. Atlas is so freaking angry because his dad is doing it again. And Atlas caught him … again. He doesn’t confront him this time. He also struggles with what to do with this information. He doesn’t want to tell Troy or his mom because it will hurt them. But he also doesn’t want to keep it a secret because that will hurt them.

Atlas decides he’s going to tell Troy the next evening but Troy ends up canceling their dinner plans and tells him he will meet up with him later on.

Brandon texted Troy out of the blue, wanting to meet up for dinner. Tells Troy he is doing really well, has a job, and is getting help. Troy agrees to meet but when he shows up at the restaurant, there’s a woman in Brandon’s car, and he doesn’t want to go in to eat, just wants to sit in Troy’s car. They talk for a bit and then he asks Troy for $2000. It kills him to tell him no but he does. He knows that he can’t keep giving him money and that he needs to stand firm. Brandon gets pissed off and tries to get out of the car, but Troy tries to stop him. Somehow there’s a scuffle and Troy gets kicked in the head. Brandon gets out and leaves. Troy gets out and punches the brick wall.

Atlas gets a phone call from Troy asking him to come to the ER. Troy went to the ER for his broken knuckles and concussion. Atlas meets Troy’s mom there and after telling them what happened, Troy asks his mom if she can ask the nurse for something to drink, she leaves and Atlas goes to his side. They are kissing when Atlas’ dad walks in. He immediately starts yelling at Atlas and asking him what he did to Troy, this is disgusting and wrong, and what will people say, they won’t destroy this family. Atlas laughs in his face and says they aren’t the ones doing that, he is by cheating on his wife again.

Unfortunately, Troy’s mom had just walked in the door and heard that. His dad tries to lie his way out but they all three kick him out. She tells the boys that she had a feeling but she was ignoring it. She is also supporting their relationship, as long as they make each other happy.
