Ronan Seaborn is currently playing college hockey but his mind is always torn between focusing on the game and dealing with his family. His mom died when he was young, and his dad has MS, and has some rough days. His aunt, Emily, helps out when Ronan is at college.

Leontiy Ktytor is originally from Ukraine. He is in the states attending college and playing hockey. Ronan and Leontiy are two of the top college players and both hope to get drafted high, get good contracts, and be able to help their families.

They are on rival teams so they play against each other frequently. Leontiy is always running his mouth - calling Ronan all these nicknames that really get under his skin.

After a game where they were in each other's faces, Leontiy asks him if he wants to take this off the ice. Ronan meets him outside his hotel and after trading words, they trade fists, then end up making out. Which is confusing for both of them as neither one of them are gay. Leonity doesn’t have any interest in .. well people in general. He has a one track mind of hockey and getting drafted. Ronan is a man whore - hooking up with all the puck bunnies.

After the next game they play each other, Ronan gets thrown into the penalty box, which ends with Leontiy’s team winning. They meet by the buses after - throw some punches and make out again and then jerk each other off.

Over the summer, Ronan and Leontiy get invited to attend a hockey development camp put on by the NHL team, Dragons. They are both surprised to see each other and decide to put their little rivalry on pause so that they make a good impression with the Dragons. Works beautifully for them because they actually work really well together.

Their hotel is only supposed to be paid for by the team for the first 3 days. Ronan doesn’t have enough money to pay for the next two days so he decides he will commute, by train, back and forth. Leontiy, doesn’t obey rules, and is going to stay anyways and just charge the team. He invites Ronan to stay with him.

They talk a lot and don’t even touch until the next day when they head to the team’s practice facility to use their hot tub and sauna. They end up hooking up in the sauna. Then again, in their hotel room. Then again, in their shower.

Ronan is having lots of confused emotions which is pissing Leontiy off. He doesn’t put too much thought into these things, he just goes with the flow of what he wants. Ronan has never once thought of a man in a sexual way so he’s a little out of sorts. They end up hooking up multiple times before the week is over.

Then they both go their separate ways and don’t talk for four months. The week before they’re supposed to play against each other, they see each other out at a bar. Leontiy says he’ll make him a bet - whoever wins, gets to fuck the other one. They both get in each other’s head so much and the game ends in a tie. Leontiy goes over to Ronan’s house that he shares with two teammates - Archangel and Wolfe. They hook up and then are in the shower together when Wolfe and Archangel come home. They are shocked, but not unsupportive, when they realize that Ronan is hooking up with a dude but they are shocked, and not supportive nor happy, to realize its Leontiy.

They don’t get to see each other for a month but they spend that time texting back and forth. The next time they play each other, they agree their original bet is back on. And Ronan is focused this time and his team ends up winning. This time, Ronan goes to Leontiy’s place. He also shares with a teammate, Happy (his nickname), but he isn’t home right now. Ronan gets to top, because his team won, and Leontiy realizes he’s not mad about it.

Until they can see each other again, they text everyday and start video chatting. A month later, they are in the same city again, and are going to meet up but Ronan says he has to make an appearance going out with his team and Leontiy says he has to too. But when he arrives at a bar, he sees Ronan and his team there. Ronan is in a back corner with a girl on either side of him. Leontiy knows he shouldn’t care but he does.

He messages Ronan and tells him they don’t have to meet up but Ronan has been waiting for this for a month and he’s like wtf no. He realizes that Leontiy is in the same bar and he leaves the girls to go chase after him. Ronan tells him he wasn’t going to hook up with either of those girls but they agreed to hide whatever this is and that includes Ronan not acting differently than he did before. So he’s got to flirt. (I am unclear if Ronan has been hooking up with girls this entire time. He doesn’t confirm or deny and Leonity doesn’t push, I like to pretend he was not). He reassures Leonity he only wants him and they go back to Ronan’s hotel together.

That next week, Ronan gets a text from Emily (his aunt) asking him to come home. He misses a weekend of games which Leonity finds out about and texts him asking what’s wrong. They end up facetiming and just talking.

In December, everyone goes home for the holidays but it's too far for Leonity to travel so he just stays at school. Ronan refuses to let him stay alone and forces him to go to Ronan's home with him. Ronan’s family are a little confused when Ronan walks in with Leonity and announces that they are friends. They watch them on ESPN, they know they are rivals and watch them fight on the ice. Emily figures it out before the end of the visit and tells Ronan he should tell his dad. Ronan is nervous to do so - what if his dad gets upset that Ronan is gay and then he dies before they resolve anything?

January is busy for both of them and they don’t get to see each other face to face. They still face time and text but they are both missing each other. On a phone call, they talk about the future. Ronan wonders how they are going to keep this up and Leonity lets him know about these things called airplanes. They both know it will be hard but they both seem willing to do it.

A few weeks later, they finally play each other - both earning spots on the All-League team. Ronan’s roommates decide to throw a party and when Leonity calls, it's too loud for them to hear each other. Ronan is sitting there minding his own business when a puck bunny climbs into his lap. He is trying to politely tell her to get the fuck off of him when he looks up and sees Leonity. He runs after him and Leonity is like I can’t do this - I can’t sit back and watch as you flirt with puck bunnies because that’s what you’re supposed to do. Ronan is like I don’t want them, I want you, but I have to flirt for my image. Leonity tells him he’s done and walks away.

Ronan tries to reach out via text and says he wants to see him after the game but Leonity shuts him down. They battle on the ice and then they end up fist fighting on the ice and getting thrown into the penalty boxes. Ronan’s team ends up losing and even though Leonity keeps telling him they’re done, he grabs him outside the arena, throws him against the wall and kisses him. Ronan pushes him away and says he isn’t doing this again just for Leonity to reject him again tomorrow so maybe Leonity needs to figure out what he wants.

March arrives with the playoffs. They are staying in the same hotel but ignoring each other. Leonity gets a phone call from his brother in Ukraine telling him the bomb sirens are going off again. Leonity is stressed out and ends up punching the fuck out of wall. Ronan finds him, takes him back to his room, puts ice on his hands, and then they just hold each other while they sleep. Ronan is also stressed out - his dad is in the hospital again.

They run into each other again the next night. Ronan tells him he misses him but he understands that Leonity doesn’t want him. Leonity says that's not true at all, but how is this going to work? They will be in different cities, on different teams, playing hockey for 10 months out of the year - how will this work? But they agree they want to try but Leonity wants Ronan to stop flirting with girls. He says he is a jealous person, and he doesn’t like when other people touch what is his.

The next week, they have one more game each and if they both win, they play each other for the championship. Ronan invites Leonity over to his house so he can make him dinner. Wolfe and Archangel barge in on them and are like WTF Ronan. Ronan kicks them out. Again - they don’t care that Ronan is banging a dude. They care that Ronan is banging a dude on a rival team.

They both win their next game and face off in the Championship. Ronan and Leonity end up in the penalty box again. But this time, the fight was strictly about hockey and not about their relationship. Leonity's team wins but there is still the Frozen Four.

The next week, they are both at Ronan’s dad’s apartment. His dad is now on hospice but doing okay. They are there to watch the NHL Scouting rankings together. They accidentally let it slip that they’re in a relationship and his dad laughs and is like y’all must think I’m stupid, I’ve known for a long time.

Ronan gets announced as the number 1 draft pick while Leonity is number 3. Ronan apologizes and Leonity is like don’t do that I’d be insufferable if I was number 1.

The epilogue is the NHL Draft. Leonity gets drafted first to the Dragons. Wolfe goes second to Chicago. Dragons have the third round pick which confuses Ronan - he didn’t realize they made some trades to get a higher draft pick. They draft Ronan. The coach says they both made such an impression during the summer camp thing they went to. They can’t believe their luck - they will be able to have hockey and each other (but on the downlow for right now because they’re new).
