SUMMARY
This is Book 2-4 in the Rina Kent Universe. Most of these books can be read as standalone.
This is a summary for all three books that are about Aiden and Elsa. Their story spans three books and normally I would summarize each one separately, but….I didn’t.
Jonathan King and Ethan Steel were two very powerful and rich men. They were friends but also rivals. They loved to make bets with each other and sometimes they would take it too far. They had some weird bet about marrying women who were mentally unstable…so they both did. They were constantly taking hits at one another. Jonathan decides to burn down one of Ethan’s buildings. Unfortunately, some wires got crossed with the arsonist and he set the place on fire when there were people inside. Ethan decided to hit back by kidnapping Jonathan's son, Aiden. He also, accidentally, kidnapped Cole Nash and Xander Knight. He quickly returned the other two…well he dumped them in some woods and they found their way home. Ethan’s plan was to keep him just a few days, scare Jonathan, then return him. Ethan’s mentally unstable wife became more emotionally unstable when their 7 year old son, Eli, drowned in a lake. His wife, Abigail, had encouraged Eli to take his life vest off because .. mentally unstable. After Eli died, Abigail started taking little boys home and was convinced they were Eli. Ethan would feed them dinner and then take them home. Abigail also started physically abusing their 6 year old daughter, Elsa.
So Ethan brings Aiden home. Ethan didn’t personally do this, but had his people do it. I believe he thought they would return Aiden after a few days, and he leaves on a business trip. Abigail sees Aiden and thinks it's Eli. She ends up putting him in the basement, chaining him up, and would occasionally beat him.
One day, Elsa heard crying coming from the basement, and she snuck down there and found Aiden. Aiden and Elsa form a friendship. She would sneak down there with food, water, blankets, and just hang out and talk to him. She kept telling him her dad would be home in a few days and he would help.Ethan does come home, and finds out that Abigail has been keeping Aiden. He’s like WTF, and he tells Abigail they have to return him. She says absolutely not and shoots him. Elsa sees this and she runs downstairs to help Aiden. Her mom is down there already, Elsa convinces her that they all need to get away, so Abigail undoes Aiden’s chain. Elsa pushes him out of the door, locks it, and tells him to run. Abigail shoots Elsa and then shoots herself in the head. Aiden is outside the door losing his mind because he wants to save Elsa.
Ethan’s right hand man, Agnus, ends up finding them, he gets Aiden home, gets Elsa and Ethan out of the house, and sets it on fire with Abigail inside.
Agnus contacts Abigail’s sister and her husband. He tells them that Ethan and Abigail died in a fire, Elsa had to undergo surgery due to getting shot, and that they are her closest relatives, so they are now her guardians. When Elsa wakes up, she has no memory of the first seven years of her life. She blocked it all. She doesn’t remember Eli or Aiden, barely remembers her parents.
When Elsa is in high school (she says she has three years left, so in American terms, I’m assuming she is a sophomore), she starts at Royal Elite School. On her very first day, she meets Kimberly Reed. Kim tells her that she shouldn’t be talking to her because Kim is the school outcast, but Elsa doesn’t care. She meets the Four Horsemen (Cole, Aiden, Xander, and Ronan) for the first time. She sees Aiden across the hall and she feels something in her chest but doesn’t know what that is. He won’t stop staring at her. He comes over to her, Xander picks on Kim, and then Aiden slams Elsa up against the wall and says “I will destroy you”.
Why you might ask? Because Elsa looks like a carbon copy of her mother. Aiden later says he felt like he saw a ghost because he knew her mother was dead and he thought Elsa died in the fire as well.
Being immediately singled out by the Horsemen doesn’t do great things for Elsa. She has a really rough two years at RES. They bully her, they start rumors about her, no one really wants anything to do with her (other than Kim), because the Horsemen said so.
First day of senior year, Kim shocks everyone with her weight loss over the summer. Xander, of course, doesn’t let this go and has to embarrass her. Kim runs out of the classroom crying, Xander follows, and Elsa runs off behind them. She finds them in the garden, Xander is caging Kim by a cabin. Elsa’s like Fuck this and starts recording him. She plans on blackmailing him with sexual harassment to get him to leave Kim alone. But when she turns around, she finds Aiden there.
Aiden and Xander forcibly take the phone from her. Then Aiden, there’s no other way to describe it, sexually assaults her. After that day, she has his attention, which is the last thing she wants. He basically decides, even though he has made her life hell for two years, that he wants her now. Doesn’t really matter what she wants. Yes she is attracted to Aiden, but he has made her life hell for two years. At first, she tries really hard to resist him, to push him away, and fight him, but she eventually gives in because she does feel something for him.
Their relationship goes through ups and downs. Aiden of course remembers everything. Elsa does not. Jonathan knows who Elsa is and wants Aiden to stay away. Jonathan has worked out an arranged marriage with Aiden and Silver Queens (yes that’s her name). Neither one of them wants this but they go along with it to a point. Jonathan and Silver have a conversation where they know Elsa might overhear, just about Aiden and Silver being together. Elsa kinda goes into a fog and heads back into school. She ends up at the pool, which is weird, because she hates water, and someone pushes her in and she almost drowns.
Book 1 ends with Elsa falling in the pool.
When Elsa got pushed into the pool (by some asshole that has been harassing her, Silver, and Kim), she was pulled out by a new kid in school - Knox. Knox just wants to be friends but Aiden feels threatened by him. Doesn’t really matter how Aiden feels at first, because Elsa wants nothing to do with him for a bit. He finally earns her trust back only for Jonathan to tell Elsa know about the engagement. She’s like you gotta be fucking kidding. She just feels like Aiden is messing with her - like a new torture method for senior year.
And then guess what? Elsa’s dad isn’t dead like we all assumed. He’s been in a coma for the last 10 years. Knox is his adopted son (Knox and his twin sister, Teal, were two kids that Abigail had kidnapped, but they didn’t have any family so Ethan had Agnus take care of them.
Book two ends with her going home with her dad, and breaking up with Aiden again.
Somewhere along the way she finds out that her mom is the one that kidnapped Aiden and she feels guilty. Then she tries to stay away from Aiden to punish herself for her moms mistakes?
She gets her memories back slowly. Throughout book 3, no matter what Jonanthan or Ethan do or say, Aiden is like I’m done losing her, I’m not going anywhere. He takes her back to her old house, to the basement, and she ends up getting all of her memories back.
Book 3 ends with Aiden and Elsa together. The epilogue is three years later where they are at University and married. They have a new American friend, Asher (aka Gareth and Killian’s dad).
